[AVNE] BARANDUDA CEMETERY - 09/01/2017 08:55:02
D Weatherill

Good Afternoon;

I have a small cemetery file on the Baranduda Public Cemetery that was just to the south of Wodonga.

The cemetery of 4 acres, 3 roods and 8 perches was gazetted on 3rd December 1880 (VGG p.2899).

On the 29th December 1897 the cemetery was revoked (VGG p.250).

From what little information I have located, it was noted that the site was unsuitable for a cemetery (Cemetery Note: 16 Oct, 1896). The small cemetery file held by the DHS Cemeteries and Crematorium Unit Archives notes that the early papers in the cemetery file cannot be found. It was thought that the cemetery had not been used.

Does anyone know anything at all about this cemetery, specifically if it was used for burials? It was noted as a narrow triangular piece of land that fronted the main road from Yackandandah to Wodonga.

Usually once a site has been gazetted, there is a very high probability that it was used.

Regards,

David
