The basic resource for these Towns and Localities pages was the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment. Those names were (at the time of initial preparation of this website) the 'standard' names used for postal/planning/emergency services, etc. To view the official DSE site at
    https://www.land.vic.gov.au/place-naming/services-and-resources/vicnames-register.

Many individuals have helped greatly by supplying details, potted histories, etc and these have generally been mentioned in the body of the text. Hopefully I have not forgotten to give acknowledge anyone, if so, please accept my apologies. Also, others have helped to confirm the existence, and the location of places and I again wish to thank these people.

'Non-standard', older or now non-existent names (and their exact locations) have been derived from numerous other sources including:
   VicRoads Country Directory, (various editions)
   GeoScience Australia website,
Place Names of Victoria by Les Blake,

Details of towns and localities have likewise come from a variety of publications such as
Vision and Realisation, Education Department of Victoria, 1973
Historic court houses of Victoria,  Challinger, Michael. Ringwood, Vic. Palisade Press, c2001
If the walls could speak: A social history of the Mechanics' Institutes of Victoria, Baragwanath, Pam, 2000
A Century of Victorian Methodism, Benson, Rev C Irving. Melbourne, Spectator Publishing Co, 1935
