"The Winton Cemetery was established in 1878, eight acres of Crown Land being set aside for the purpose. The first trustees were Patrick
CASS, Edward WILLIAMS, David LINDSAY and James LEE. However, the Cemetery was in use long before it was gazetted. The first recorded burial in Grave
No. 1 was that of Patrick COSTELLO, aged 38 years, who died in December, 1862." [Marion Webster.
